Caring for your new ink is as important as choosing the right artist, design or shop. There is a great deal of information available regarding care online but what I would suggest is to ask your artist what the best way to care for your piece is. They've had real experience with their own work and clients and can give you the benefit of their personal experience. The last thing you want to do is to run the risk of infection or otherwise compromise your health or the beauty of the new work.
When getting the work done it is important to consider whether the shop is licensed, uses an autoclave for the correct sterilization of non-disposable equipment between clients, the practitioner uses latex gloves and uses fresh tubes, needles and pigment. Thoroughly trained personnel will also be able to best advise on how to look after your work during the coming weeks.
Work that is properly cared for will continue to last for years to come and with a modicum of care on your part, it can be as painless and medically safe as possible.
